Special Interests
BarZero has its very own Time Team - Claire is a professional archaeologist accredited by the Institute of Field Archaeologists (IFA) and also holds qualifications with the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS). Many club members are also involved with the NAS and regularly attend underwater archaeology courses throughout the UK. Claire has excavated through 2,500 year old cow poo (with her bare hands) at an Iron Age crannog site in Loch Tay and is currently involved in the Thames Discovery Project which aims to record the archaeology along the foreshore of the River Thames.
Water preserves some of the most amazing finds which you would never dream of uncovering on a land based site. For example, on the crannog site in Loch Tay, plant remains, food, utensils, and even clothing have been recovered. Although the most spectacular artefacts recovered were a butter dish with butter still sticking to the inside of it, and a handful of sloes with the fruit still intact.
